MMN Artist-Run Radio: The Damned Things’ Joe Trohman Heats Up With Nirvana, Black Sabbath (STREAM)
From time to time, MMN asks its favorite artists to create personally curated playlists for our curiosity-satisfying- and audio-streaming pleasure. Themes and styles will vary, but you’ll always know your favorite bands just a little better after listening.
Today’s MMN Artist Radio DJ is: The Damned Things.
Though supergroups are usually dicey business, the Damned Things are one of the few that not only live up to the name, but live up to expectations as well. Featuring members of Anthrax, Fall Out Boy, and Every Time I Die, the Damned Things share the musical DNA of their parts (great interview with frontman Keith Buckley over at Absolute Punk), but there are plenty of new elements at play, namely a shared love for the classic hard rock of yesteryear. The band manages to give a modern, metal-centric take on the sound, and they’re bound to take the rock world by storm when they release their debut album, Ironiclast, next week on Island/Def Jam.
To celebrate the impending album, as well as the success of their debut single, “We’ve Got a Situation Here,” Damned Things and Fall Out Boy guitarist Joe Trohman provided us with an exclusive playlist of 16 songs “broken down, heated up, liquefied, and ready for injection,” including Nirvana and Black Sabbath. Check out Trohman’s full tracklist, and stream the entire playlist after the jump….
